Le Castellet Qualifying: Quotes from the top three

Tom Coronel (1st): “I think I never did a lap like this before! I was only concentrating on keeping the flow in places like Turn 10 – I don’t know what happened there, I was really flying. If you see what happened there, it was stupid. I was nearly full-throttle and I didn’t think I was going to make it, but I did. It was a mega lap. You know, I’m fifty years old and I’m always fighting for everything and this is just how you do it. This is one of those days when you can feel it, I feel 100% control in the car and I’m just enjoying it. I’m so easily relaxed in the car, I’m at the limit everywhere and I feel at one with the chassis. We tested at the Nürburgring maybe one month ago and I could feel it there. It was a feeling that I’ve never had before.”

Felice Jelmini (2nd): “I’m happy because of the result, of course, but mainly because we have done a good job all weekend. Yesterday I only did one lap in FP2 because I had a broken steering rack so I’m really happy. It’s only the Qualifying and we have to push really hard in the race. The car is perfect and so I have to say thank you to the team. I also made a slight mistake in the Signes corner, but the lap time was still good. Josh and I are good teammates and good friends and so we will try our best to score maximum points but we will have to talk about this later…”

Josh Files (3rd): “In Q1 I had a really good balance and then the same balance in Q2 and to be honest I think it’s the best we can get out of this car today with the weight that we have. I think we might struggle a little in the race if we don’t get a clean start and get away because the Audis and the CUPRAs are much faster on the straights and so it’ll come down to the first sequence of corners. From there, I think we’ll have to fight like we did in Portimão. We can definitely fight this afternoon and tomorrow as well. I always say that on the reversed grid you should aim for a podium and in the first race the target is a win and that’s exactly what I’ll be doing.”
