Le Castellet Race 2: Quotes from the Podium

Jimmy Clairet (1st): “I’m so happy for me, for the team and for my family. It was a hard race because Azcona came after me with full pressure for all the race. I’m very happy with my performance because I didn’t make any mistakes and I didn’t miss any apex or braking zone. I know that it is on the first lap that you can really make a difference; I made a good start and I saw Mikel was a little bit too aggressive and I could pass. After that I could focus on my race and making no mistakes. I was faster than him in Sector 2 but he was really fast in the third sector so I never gave him the opportunity to overtake. I think the key to this weekend was the BoP; compared to the others, Azcona had 60kgs and we were much lighter than him.”

Mikel Azcona (2nd): “I’m really happy because I was carrying 60kgs on the car and so it’s really difficult. This position is probably the best result I could have hoped for with such a heavy car and the Peugeot was very light. I scored some good points this weekend and I will also be much lighter for the next round so that’s really positive and I’m pleased we survived this very difficult weekend. After the start, when you are on the inside it’s very difficult to manage the braking point and also the cars are on you. I had a small contact from Davidovski under braking and I missed the entry point but luckily I only lost one position. I tried to put pressure on Jimmy under braking but he was much faster than me. It was difficult but actually it was fun to do.”

Sami Taoufik (3rd): “It was a bit of a shame yesterday as we had so much potential to show and we could have had two Moroccan flags on the podium but today I was really happy to bring it back, particularly after making such a poor start. I managed to make a cheeky overtaking move on the outside and managed to prove myself today. I just hope that move makes the highlights on YouTube! It feels amazing, I can’t wait to get the season really going and I hope to finish on the podium more often and to support the Moroccan flag - that’s what I’m here for. With the dropped score rule this year there’s a different strategy and so I’m effectively only one race in the hole from yesterday. From now on it’s positive drives and just trying to get the points in.”
