Practice 1: Bennani posts the fastest lap before the rain

The session began on a damp track and under the threat of rain; the rain came pouring after a few minutes and intensified as the session went on.
Mehdi Bennani was able to post a couple of fast laps before the circuit became too slippery and so topped the timesheet with the time of 2:02.814. Mike Halder nearly matched that time, as he was clocked at 2:02.913, but had that time disallowed for cutting the first chicane.
Halder remained second fastest with a lap of 2:04.974 ahead of Pepe Oriola (2:05.679), guest driver Felice Jelmini (2:05.892), the Fiat Tipo of Luca Rangoni (2:06.207) and Michelle Halder (2:09.435). Evgenii Leonov, Nicolas Baert, Dániel Nagy and Kevin Giacon rounded off the top ten.
As the track conditions grew worse, nobody improved and eventually the session was red-flagged and not resumed with four minutes left on the clock when the CUPRA of Leonov went off at the first chicane and hit the barriers.

Bennani said: “It’s always good to be P1 in a session, but it began dry and then went full wet, so we cannot learn anything from the lap times. We really had a lot of rain during the session and it was a big challenge just to keep the car on track; I was aquaplaning before Ascari and the Parabolica. We’ll see over the weekend how we are, but that didn’t tell us anything. We don’t know whether or not the Audi will be quick this weekend. Everyone will push in Qualifying and we know it’s always close here - it’s usually only five or six tenths covering the top ten or twelve cars - and we know that a single mistake costing two or three tenths is easy to make. I would never say that a particular car will be fast here or there, as everyone has the same potential. Let me try all the cars and afterwards I will decide!”
The second free practice will take place at 15:50.
