Spa Race 2: Quotes from the TCR Europe podium

John Filippi (race winner): “It’s been a very long time that I’ve been waiting for this moment! It’s a world category and so it’s an incredible feeling, especially to finish in front of drivers like Norbi and Tom who are very experienced and are very strong. It was not easy, for sure; I had to manage the car and we didn’t know if there would be a Safety Car during the race. I was very concerned about Pauwels’ car when he stopped in Turn 2 in case there would be a Safety Car coming onto the track, but in the end it was okay and there was no need to worry. All I had to do then was to keep the gap between me and the car behind.”

Tom Coronel (second in TCR Europe): “It feels good; okay, I know Filippi has also scored good points this weekend because I think we were both in good shape. I was a little bit stuck behind Michelisz, for sure I was faster at the beginning of the race, a lot even, but I just couldn’t pass him and so that cost me a lot of time. If you get too close to the car in front your tyres go down and so I had to stay calm and just to go for P3. In the end I had a big hit from Urrutia; he hit me quite hard in the last corner and I was thinking ‘please not a flat tyre’ but finally I could defend and it was P3. I was happy with the situation – of course I am fighting for the TCR Europe title, but to get a podium at a KUMHO TCR World Tour event is something I didn’t want to give away.”

Felipe Fernández (third in TCR Europe): “The race today was good. We were building the speed throughout the weekend and today we found something good on the car, so we had the pace. Yesterday, we were slower than today and so we are happy for the team because they are doing a good job.”
