Urrutia and Magnus make an Audi 1/2 in Practice 2

Lap times were improved by one second in Free Practice 2 and Santiago Urrutia emerged as the fastest driver once again. However, his fellow Audi driver Gilles Magnus posted a second fastest lap that was only 58 thousandths of a second slower than the Uruguayan’s.
Competition was close for the top positions, as the first 13 drivers were covered by nine tenths only.
The session was disrupted once by the red flag, when Viktor Davidovski’s Honda crashed nose into the tyre barrier at T10, but the car only suffered from repairable damage at the front.
When action resumed, Aurélien Comte was the first to break the 1:48 wall, posting a provisional fastest lap of 1:47.879, with Maxime Potty second with 1:47.940. Moments later, Magnus jumped on top with a lap of 1:47.608 while Potty improved to 1:47.824 and so retained the second position.
But Urrutia had the last word and set the fastest lap of the session: 1:47.389. In the dying seconds a number of other drivers improved their times, but none was good enough to beat Urrutia’s. Magnus ranked second (1:48.477) ahead of Josh Files, Daniel Lloyd, Potty, Comte and Stian Paulsen who was the last to complete a lap in the 1:47s. Six different brands were within the top seven, all but Renault.
The best of the Mégane cars was John Filippi’s in 20th position, 1.7 seconds off Urrutia’s pace. The Corsican driver was able to join the session thanks to the efforts of the Vuković Motorsport’s crew that replaced the broken uniball of the front suspension that has collapsed during the first Practice.
“It was a good result and makes me feel quite confident for tomorrow’s Qualifying. Fine-tuning will be the plan for tonight, but no big changes will be made because the pace is okay. I think this is a good track for Audi; Budapest was a little less good, so it should be our weekend and we should be able to take as many points as possible,”commented Magnus.
Track action will resume tomorrow morning with the Qualifying session at 10:05.
