2025 - the closest championship in TCR Europe series history

The 2025 season is officially the closest title battle in the TCR Europe series ten-year history, after Jenson Brickley won the drivers’ championship on a tiebreak with Teddy Clairet, with the champion decided on account of the most second-place finishes.

Should a driver finish on equal points, the champion is decided based on which driver has the most number of victories. In the case of Brickley and Clairet, both had two victories each, and so it came down to the number of second-place finishes, which favoured Brickley, with P2s in Portugal, Italy, and Spain – while Clairet’s only P2 was at the final round.

The only time the series finished on a tiebreak before was in 2017, when TCR Europe was a single event round consisting of two races. Aurélien Comte won the title after winning the second race, while Giacomo Altoè finished as runner-up as he didn’t win a race, instead finishing second in both races.

With 12 drivers going into the weekend, whittled down to five by the start of Race 2, it was the the tightest battle in TCR Europe’s history, arguably in all of TCR competition.
