2025 title contender #10: Ruben Volt

Tenth in the championship and in theoretical contention for the title is Ruben Volt. At the start of the year, there’s no question that Volt should have been a safe bet for the championship, but it’s safe to say the young Estonian has had one of his most unlucky seasons in TCR Europe, which is why he goes to Barcelona tenth in the standings, and an almost unrecoverable 59 points behind.

The driver who finished tied at the top of the TCR Italy standings last year, and burst onto the TCR Europe series grid at the end of 2023, winning races in both of his first weekends and taking pole on his debut, has only managed to show his true pace at Misano this year, claiming pole and romping to victory.

Over the rest of the season, troubles mostly in qualifying with stone-damaged radiators, punctures, driveshaft failures, have left him scrapping in the midfield and trying to salvage as many points as possible.

What does he have to do to win the title?

Another victory is at the least needed, with another podium and top qualifying performance on top, meaning the 19-year-old will need to close out the season with his best event of the year – another Misano Plus.

In the case of Volt, it’s certainly not impossible. He won at Barcelona back in 2023, and has additional experience of the track from his TCR Spain programme, but again it’s more that the results alone for Volt, need to come with a big spell of misfortune from the nine drivers ahead of him in the championship – which is a lot to ask.
