2025 title contender #11: Junesung Park

Going into Spain with another outside shot of the title is the superfast Korean racer Junesung Park.

In their debut TCR Europe season, Junesung Park and the Solite Indigo Racing team have been nothing short of exceptional.

Junesung and the team were already race winners in TCR Italy, which meant they’d already proven their capability, but the step to a set of new circuits and a new series has been a big challenge, but the Elantra-equipped outfit has had a fantastic run with some strong results, which means Park is one of the mathematical title hopefuls.

What does he have to do to win the title?

At 60 points down, with 70 on the table, to win the title would need nothing short of a miracle, mostly in the form of some bad luck for his rivals, and the best weekend of his season, if not career.

Park finished in second place back in Spa-Francorchamps in the first race, a result he achieved absolutely on merit, so we know he and the team has the pace. However, he’d need to find a bit more and again. To score 60 points means at least one of those races would need to be a first race win, and if he didn’t win the other, that also means he’d at least need to have scored his first pole position and a top three finish, again with the hope of severe misfortune for his title rivals.

That means again, Park’s chances are more mathematical than practical, and it’s more likely his title challenge will come to an end once the qualifying points are allocated – but to even be on the list at this point is an incredible achievement in his debut season.
