2025 title contender #8: Nicolas Taylor

The reigning TCR Italy champion Nicolas Taylor can be delighted to be heading to Barcelona at least as one of the drivers with a mathematical chance of securing the 2025 TCR Europe series title.

A difficult start to the year, in particular with a few tough qualifying sessions was turned around in the second half of the season, and a sensational Red Bull Ring last time out saw him catapult up the order and keep himself in the numbers game for Spain.

In fact, Taylor was the joint-highest points scorer in Austria, with a front row qualifying performance and second place in the first race.

What does he have to do to win the title?

At 41 points back with just 70 to play for means it’s quite a tall order. Also because, as a bonus for being the top scorer along with Marco Butti at the Red Bull Ring, he’s carrying the maximum possible 40kg of ballast into the weekend.

If he repeated his Austria performance though, he’d net 53 points, which means it’s not impossible, but that does mean the two at the front of the championship must score less than 12, and the rest of the top seven would need to have difficult weekends too, which is probably a little unlikely.
