2025 title contender #9: Felipe Fernández

The reigning Diamond Trophy champion can be proud to be heading to his home race as one of the 12 battling for the championship, with a season filled with some strong performances for him and the RC2 Racing Team.

Given Fernández’s season tally includes four DNFs, the most notable of which was his involvement in the five-car collision at the start of the Red Bull Ring race two weeks ago, to be in with a shout is quite an achievement. Fernández has scored well when he has finished, often just finishing off of the podium, with his only podium result of the year coming at the season opener at Portimão.

The driver who has become a bit of a Spa specialist, taking two consecutive pole positions at the iconic Belgian circuit, is unlucky however that the season ends at his home circuit, and not a repeat trip to the Ardennes.

What does he have to do to win the title?

At 55 points down, Fernández’s title chances are another of those in the hypothetical category. If he took his third career pole position, and his first at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, he could overhaul the gap with just a pair of podium finishes – but it’d be easier if he managed to secure his first career win instead, it would certainly be nice timing and an event for it.

That’s just what Fernández would need to do though, and like all in the list, he’d be dependent on a lot of low-scoring weekends for his rivals.
