Following a two-month summer break, the TCR Europe series erupts into action again this weekend at the Brno circuit in Czechia, with the thrilling title battle which is tied at the top between the two CUPRA rivals resuming.
It’s the TCR Europe series first visit to Czechia, while it’s effectively a home event for its guest stars, with the teams and drivers from the TCR Eastern Europe series joining the grid at the same time.
It couldn’t be closer at the top of the standings, with Franco Girolami and Aurélien Comte tied on 259 points after the last round at Spa-Francorchamps.
Both equipped with the latest CUPRA Leon VZ TCR, but running with rival teams Monlau Motorsport and SP Compétition, the two will continue their fight which is only led by Girolami on the countback of victories, with the 2022 champion on two compared to Comte’s one.
Also very much in the fight is last year’s TCR South America champion Ignacio Montenegro, who is just 26 points behind the pair, racing for the Estonian ALM Motorsport team.
Montenegro is almost certain to secure the rookies’ title this weekend, while there’s also an outside possibility for ALM Motorsport to secure the teams’ title if things go their way, and not the way of their rivals.
The exciting dynamic will be how the TCR Eastern Europe drivers fit in the mix, with all drivers eligible for points in TCR Europe. This will make their series’ reigning champion and champion elect Mat’o Homola, a two-time race winner in TCR Europe who will make his 49th start in the championship this weekend.
Qualifying takes place at 15:15 CEST on Friday, with Race 1 on Saturday at 14:15 CEST, and Race 2 Sunday morning at 10:35.
All races will be streamed live on the TCR Europe series Facebook page.
