Alex Ley claimed his second win of the season in style and with high-drama, as the British driver’s Hyundai’s front-left tyre exploded moments after the chequered flag.

Ley was one of just a few drivers who experienced tyre issues in Race 2, after many drivers went for aggressive camber set-ups during the weekend to try and match the pace of the PMA Motorsport Audis, who ultimately had a difficult weekend themselves.

Ley blasted past the heavily-ballasted CUPRA of Marco Butti on lap two and controlled the race, and from two safety car restarts to claim an important victory. His victory moves him up to second in the standings behind Butti, just 11 points behind with 70 on offer at the finale in Barcelona, but with seven other drivers also mathematically in contention for the title. 

“That was probably the most dramatic finish to a race I’ve ever had!” said Ley. “We had a good start to the race and just pushed on from there. We tried to protect the tyre from the kerbs and I did just enough. I made a good move on Marco at the start, having the perfect slipstream and getting him into Turn 1 with the slipstream, so it’s looking good going to Barcelona.”
