An expanded field for Spa as the TCR Europe series heads into its second half

The iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit will play host to the TCR Europe series as the drivers’ championship couldn’t be any closer, with Aurélien Comte leading 2022 champion Franco Girolami by one point in the standings.

The CUPRA rivals are not the only drivers fancied for the title however, with ALM Motorsport Honda drivers also on a roll in the last two race meetings, with reigning TCR South America champion Ignacio Montenegro not far behind in the points, and Estonia’s Ruben Volt also making up ground, winning last time out at the Salzburgring.

There are more names on the grid this weekend, with two drivers joining the field in the latest technology from CUPRA Racing, the Leon VZ TCR. Jimmy Clairet, a race winner in the series in 2021, will be behind the wheel of car run under the Baldan Group by Comtoyou banner, pairing up with Nicola Baldan.

It’ll also be the TCR Europe series debut of Eric Gené, the son of touring car star and CUPRA Racing development driver Jordi Gené, who will join the grid in a third car run by Spanish team Monlau Motorsport, partnering with Girolami and Viktor Davidovski.

The race meeting starts with free practice at 17:25 CEST on Friday. The second practice, qualifying, and first race all taking place on Friday at 09:00, 13:00, and 18:20.

The reversed grid second race is scheduled for 12:55 on Saturday.
