Callejas to join Volcano Motorsport for TCR Europe

Isidro Callejas has announced that he will be driving a CUPRA Leon Competición for Volcano Motorsport in the 2022 TCR Europe series. The Spanish teenager made the announcement on his social media channels and is the first driver to confirm a programme with the team that delivered the TCR Europe Drivers’ title for Mikel Azcona in 2021.

Callejas made his TCR Europe debut driving a Honda Civic Type-R for the Brutal Fish Racing team last year. A third-place finish in Race 2 at Zandvoort and qualifying on pole position at the Nürburgring were the highlights of an impressive maiden season in which he finished eleventh in the final standings and clinched the Rookie title.

Volcano Motorsport ran a total of three CUPRA cars in 2021, with Azcona being joined by Evgenii Leonov and Klim Gavrilov during the season. Azcona’s six race victories secured the Drivers’ title, but the Spaniard has already announced a move to Hyundai for the 2022 WTCR.

Callejas wrote: “Extremely happy to announce that this year I will be racing in TCR Europe with Volcano Motorsport. Thank you to all people that made this possible. Looking forward to start of the championship.”

Callejas’ teammates will be announced in due course.
