Clairet brothers on top of the world, and the standings, after Spa

Teddy and Jimmy Clairet’s strong weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit saw the French brothers begin to build a lead for themselves at the top of the TCR Europe drivers’ standings table, and also for their team, which now leads Monlau Motorsport by 67 points.

A strong first race for Teddy Clairet saw him move up to second in the standings just a point behind his brother, while going from third to first at La Source and then controlling the race, winning by nine seconds and securing his first win since Paul RIcard in 2021, saw him move into a four-point lead in the drivers’ standings, but most importantly lead an epic first 1-2 finish for the French team in the series.

“We are really team-mates and working together for these kinds of results,” said Teddy. “In this race I knew the start was the key, and I was able to get P1 after Turn 1 and then focussed, and after two or three laps I was in a really good position and really comfortable in the car, so I want to thank the team for the amazing job they’re doing. It’s really great after two weekends to be on top of the standings, but the season is long and we know a lot of things can happen, so we have to focus on ourselves and try our best.”

Brother Jimmy, who had a mixed Race 1, losing some ground after an incident with the Hyundai of Junesung Park, bounced back to pick up second place in Race 2. After Jimmy’s high-scoring first round, he was carrying the maximum 40kg of compensation weight this weekend, but it set to lose some going to the next round in Germany.

“It’s unbelievable. With the huge ballast that I have here, it’s an amazing result,” said Jimmy. “If I look at all the other drivers’ results today, P2 is a really good result. I didn’t push too much in Race 2 as in Race 1 I was a bit too aggressive and I lost a lot, so the second race was better for me. I also got a bit of luck after the accident of Butti, so I finished P2 and I’m happy to share the podium with Teddy in P1.”
