Colciago’s penalty hands victory to Viberti

Roberto Colciago completed his second recovery from the back of the grid and crossed the line first at the end of the second race at Misano, the fourth round of the Italian Touring Car Championship. However, the AGS Motorsport driver received a 5-second penalty that demoted him to second place behind Alberto Viberti.
The event was also valid as the second round of the TCR Trophy Europe.
At the start Viberti sprinted from pole position and took the lead, followed by Vincenzo Montalbano and Romy Dall’Antonia.
During the first lap Colciago was able to recover to the third position, although the last overtaking manoeuvre he completed ended up with a contact between his Honda Civic and the SEAT León of Dall’Antonia.
On the second lap Colciago overtook Montalbano for second place and began to reduce his 6-second gap from the leader Viberti. Lap after lap Colciago got closer to Viberti and eventually overtook him on lap 15; in the action the two cars made a hard contact, which affected the handling of Viberti’s car. This time the Stewards considered Colciago’s manoeuvre over the limit and imposed a 5-second penalty that demoted him to second place behind Viberti. Dall’Antonia claimed the third position after a close battle with Montalbano, Daniele Cappellari and Marco Costamagna.
Colciago was not eligible to score points for the TCR Trophy Europe, because he drives a national homologated car.
The next event valid for the TCR Trophy Europe will be the TCR Benelux race meeting at Zandvoort, Netherlands, on July 16 and 17.
