Stefano Comini posted the fastest lap in the first Practice at Assen’s TT Circuit; the Swiss was the only driver capable of breaking the 1:45 wall, clocking a 1:44.915 with eleven minutes to go.
His Autodis Racing-THX Honda Civic beat by half-a-second a group of Hyundai cars that have monopolised the top positions of the timesheet in the first half of the session.
Comini commented: "The result doesn't mean much, as this was really the first session of the weekend, given that this morning, for the private testing, it was still damp. We decided to put on new tyres to have immediately a good idea of our performance. We still have to work a bit on the set-up, but the first feedback is encouraging."
Dušan Borković was the first driver to post a competitive time (1:45.926) in the Target Competition Hyundai but was soon ousted by his teammates Kris Richard (1:45.847) and Reece Barr (1:45.412). Behind the Target Competion’s trio, Dániel Nagy of M1RA and newcomer Peter Terting of Autodis Racing-Piro Sports provisionally ranked fourth and fifth. The only change of positions among the five Hyundai drivers saw Borković improving to 1:45.680 that gave him a provisional second place behind Barr.
After Comini had set the fastest time, a couple of other drivers managed to split the Hyundai group: Jens Reno Møller moved up to fourth with a lap of 1:45.786 to settle in between Borković and Richard, while home boy Danny Kroes was classified seventh (1:46.119) between Nagy and Terting.
Josh Files and Attila Tassi rounded off the top-ten, while Jean-Karl Vernay and current points leader Mikel Azcona were 11th and 12th fastest respectively.
Two drivers – Loris Cencetti and Igor Stefanovski – missed the session after damaging the front suspension of their cars during the morning test.
The second free practice session is scheduled at 14:40.
