Mat’o Homola (pole position): “We had a tough winter when we were trying to find a sponsor and to put everything together. I think we chose the right team and the right car and together with this combination I managed P1 without almost any testing. With such a small amount of track time in FP1 and FP2, I really didn’t know where I was, plus I made a few small mistakes in Q1. I knew I could put it all together and I did it in Q2. Tomorrow will be tough, but I know Andreas is second and so we have to sit down and decide how to work together as a team to get the best result.”
Andreas Bäckman (2nd): “It was a very difficult session, especially in Q1 because I was struggling a lot after my big crash in Free Practice. I have to say thank you to the guys who did such a great job in getting the car ready for Qualifying, thanks to Hyundai for such a good car and for the Young Driver programme. I’m really happy with P2; it’s been a great weekend so far. I’m not experienced to be this far up in a European field and so it’s difficult to predict how tomorrow will be. I’ll try to do the best I can and see how it goes, as I have a good car and a good team so anything is possible.”
Nelson Panciatici (3rd): “I’m very happy as this was my first Qualifying session with this type of cars. I wasn’t expecting to be in the first positions, so I’m very happy. I think we could have done more with the tyre strategy, but it’s still good. We worked a lot on the car between FP1 and FP2 as we had a lot of understeer so we improved on that for the Qualifying. I think we can still improve it more for the races as I think that will be the key.”
