After being the second fastest in the first two test sessions, Gabriele Tarquini clocked the best lap time in the third one. His 1:19.955 was good enough to beat Josh Files’ 1:20.478 by half-a-second, although Files’ time from the second test (1:19.913) remained the best overall for today.
Luca Engstler regained the third position (as in the first test) with a lap of 1:20.550, while Luigi Ferrara moved up to fourth in his Alfa Romeo (1:20.849) and Florian Thoma was fifth (1:20.952).
The rest of the field remained above the 1:21 mark: Francisco Abreu sixth (1:21.121), Maxime Potty seventh (1:21.385), Plamen Kralev eighth (1:21.531), Giacomo Altoè ninth (1:21.637) and Olli Kangas (1:22.123) in the LMS Racing SEAT.
Aurélien Comte’s Peugeot did not take part in the test due to an engine issue.
Engstler: “The test today was very good for us. We had good speed in the qualifying simulation, but against the Honda it’s a bit tough because they’ve been a bit faster. We’re looking at the data, Florian [Thoma] did exactly the same time as me and we will push like hell tomorrow. Our goal is to place ourselves on the front row, but we’ll see.”
Ferrara: “We are still working on the set-up, but the car has already improved a bit compared to the previous session. It is clear that this is not the best track for the Giulietta, but we will try some different solutions tomorrow morning.”
