Eric Gené is the Youth champion after teamwork seals three titles

Eric Gené played his part in helping Monlau Motorsport secure the drivers' and teams' titles at the Barcelona finale, and on the way picking up the Youth Best Trophy for under-21 drivers.

Gené had a good start in the final race and was chasing down Teddy Clairet's Audi, with Gené needing to pass the French driver in order to claw back enough points to win the overall drivers' title.

With no way past, the 18-year-old dropped back at the end of the race behind team-mate Jenson Brickley, which allowed Brickley enough points to match Clairet and take the title on a tiebreak, while Gené's points were enough to secure Monlau Motorsport the teams' title on their second attempt, and Gené the young drivers' title.

"I did the right thing for the team, letting Jenson by," said Gené. "We discussed it before the race, my job here is done. The team did a mega job the whole season, I struggled a bit with the 30kg, but I'm really happy with the result. As a team, we won the drivers', we won the teams', we won the youth, we missed the Diamond but we didn't have a driver there, so I'm really happy.

"Without the 30kg I'd have been the champion. Teddy didn't have any weight, I was thinking all the through the race to overtake Teddy, but he was really fast and I was struggling a bit, I also had Jimmy and then Jenson behind, so it was about what was best for me or for the team."
