Felipe Fernández turned his third consecutive pole position at the famous Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps into his first victory on his 39th start in the TCR Europe series, five years after his debut race at the end of the 2021 season.
After two unsuccessful races in 2024 and 2025, when he lost the lead at the start first to Ruben Volt, and then to Marco Butti last year, Fernández held onto the lead into Turn 1 and controlled the race, adjusting his driving style as the rain came later in the race and caused it to become a lot trickier to stay on circuit, especially at the fast Eau Rouge-Raidillon corner complex.
“This is probably the right place for my first win, as this circuit is one of the best for me,” said Fernández. “I love it and I have so much confidence here. I’ve never finished the race in P1, so I’m super-happy, this is my first victory in TCR Europe and there’s no place better to do it than here in Spa.
“When the rain came, it was a scary moment, as it rained only at Eau Rouge. Suddenly, if you touched the paint on the kerb, the car was gone, so I was very careful there but was able to recover the time in sector two, but it was very difficult.”
