Felipe Fernández was fastest of all in the first official practice session of the weekend at the Hungaroring. The Spanish driver topped the time sheets with just a few minutes to spare with a time of 1:52.322, with Monlau Motorsport’s Marco Butti going just 16-thousandths of a second slower just before the chequered flag to finish in second place.
The two drivers pipped Santiago Concepción right at the end, despite the new Squadra Martino-signing having led most of the session. The 22-year-old finished half a second off the pace, with his best time having been set early on in the 30-minute practice.
Behind Concepción was Victor Chan, Fernández’s team-mate, who was an impressive fourth fastest on his first weekend at the Hungaroring. Behind Chan was the fastest of the Hyundais Alex Ley, just ahead of Viktor Andersson’s Monlau CUPRA.
Junui Park was seventh fastest in his Solite Indigo Racing Hyundai ahead of ALM Motorsport’s fastest representative Ruben Volt. PMA Motorsport’s Nicola Baldan, who is running with 40kg of compensation weight after his results last time out at Circuit Paul Ricard, was ninth fastest, with the sole AIKOA Racing Audi of Giacomo Prandelli rounding out the top ten.
The next practice session is scheduled for 16:04 CEST.
