Competitors of the TCR Europe Trophy took the track for the first time in a 60-minute test session at the Adria International Raceway.
Josh Files set the fastest lap of 1:20.575 in the Target Competition Honda Civic, only 7 hundredths of a second faster than Gabriele Tarquini in the BRC Motorsport Hyundai i30 N (1:20.648). Luca Engstler ranked third in his Liqui Moly Team Engstler Volkwagen Golf GTI a further hundredth of a second adrift (1:20.681).
Engstler’s teammate Florian Thoma (1:20.819) and Files’ teammate Giacomo Altoè (1:20.838) followed in fourth and fifth position, while Giacomo’s older brother Giovanni was sixth in his Golf GTI with DSG gearbox.
The first Audi was Anti Buri’s (LMS Racing), seventh just ahead of the other RS3 LMS cars of Plamen Kralev (Kraf Racing) and Giovanni Berton.
Two other test sessions will follow today of 60 and 30 minutes respectively.
Files said:“I’ve only done a few laps around this circuit, so you may as well say I’ve never been here! I was quite happy with that session. The car’s feeling good and we’ve got good long run pace, so now we’ve just got to get the performance out of the car over one lap. Overall I’m very happy.”
Tarquini said:“The session for me was all about discovering new tyres. I knew these tyres before, but of course we’ve never used them on this car. They’re different from the other brands we normally use. The car seems good, we some small trouble this morning with the clutch, but we are repairing this and trying to change something on the setup, especially for the tyres.”
