Comtoyou Racing has revealed the four drivers who will defend the titles the Belgian team won in the 2022 TCR Europe series. Tom Coronel and Viktor Davidovski remain with the team, while joining for 2023 are John Filippi and Kobe Pauwels. The team will again run the Audi RS 3 LMS car that delivered a clean sweep of all four TCR Europe titles last season.
Described by the team as its ‘captain’, Coronel scored two race victories last year on his way to finishing the season as runner-up to teammate Franco Girolami. Davidovski won the Diamond Trophy in 2022, taking the overall victory in Race 2 at Le Castellet along the way. Filippi joins Comtoyou from the Sébastien Loeb Racing – Bardahl team after recording a win in Race 1 at Monza in the team’s CUPRA Leon Competicion last year, while 18-year-old Belgian driver Pauwels will be hoping to repeat the achievement of Marco Butti, who won the 2022 Rookie Trophy for Comtoyou Racing.
In addition to the four cars tackling TCR Europe, the team has also announced a two-car team for the TCR World Tour. As a result, Frédéric Vervisch and Rob Huff will bring to six the number of Comtoyou Racing Audi RS 3 LMS cars in the three TCR Europe events that will form part of the TCR World Tour.
Speaking at the team’s press launch, Team Principal Jean-Michel Baert said: “In Comtoyou Racing we have always enjoyed a challenge. Every achievement is just a step towards the next goal. The season ahead of us promises to be the most intense in our history.
“Thank you to all the drivers and to all the partners who trust us. Thank you to all the members of Comtoyou Racing for their unfailing involvement and thank you to our partners and customers for their trust and confidence in us. Together we can move mountains!”
Robin Van Hemelrijck, the team’s TCR Europe Project Leader, added: “TCR Europe is a fine championship and 2023 is shaping up to be particularly good, with a good calendar and very strong competition. We have four drivers in our ranks to defend the four titles – Teams, Drivers, Diamond and Rookie – which we won last year.
“Tom Coronel is a loyal member of Comtoyou Racing and he played a leading role in the championship last year. Like Viktor Davidovski, he will bring stability. New to the team will be John Filippi, who has a great deal of experience in Touring Car racing and will be able to bring that experience to the team, and Kobe Pauwels, a young talent in whom we have a great deal of faith. We cannot wait for the season to start.”
