Franco Girolami was able to manage the tyres at the Brno circuit to claim his third win of the 2024 TCR Europe season, finishing ahead of title rival Aurélien Comte to extend his lead to eight points and is looking ahead to tomorrow where he starts from tenth.
Girolami was able to cover off Comte into Turn 1 before going on to build a 2.6 lead before the finish, despite the extreme tyre degradation being experienced as the TCR Europe field races at the Brno circuit in Czechia for the first time.
“I’m so happy, congratulations to all of Monlau and CUPRA," said Girolami. "It was a tricky start - on the first two laps I pushed and defended some times and then began to open a bit of a gap. After that it was a race about managing the tyre degradation, and to make sure I arrived at the end of the race with the tyres in the best condition.
“It’s been a great result for us and we scored some great points, and let’s see what we can do tomorrow as tomorrow is very important.”
Comte was more downbeat after the race.
“The pace of Franco was too much, we have a lot of work to do for tomorrow,” said a disappointed Comte, despite racking up his fifth podium of the season.
