Giacomo Ghermandi will be back racing in the TCR Europe series this year, competing in a second Honda Civic Type R FL5 TCR for MM Motorsport, the same team with which he races in the TCR Eastern Europe series.

The  Italian driver, who took his first win in the TCR Eastern Europe series last week at the Red Bull Ring and currently sits second in the standings, made his TCR Europe debut four years ago at Barcelona, and raced full-time in the series in  2022.

Ghermandi has since focussed his attention on the Eastern Europe series, though he made a one-off appearance in TCR Europe at Brno last year. From next weekend, he will be back in action with the same team, MM Motorsport, in a brightly coloured Civic Type R, with guidance from experienced touring car racer Pepe Oriola.

“The success achieved at the Red Bull Ring in the TCR Eastern Europe has given us a great boost of enthusiasm and confidence,” said Ghermandi.

“We are very excited at the idea of returning to compete in the top category at European level, even though we are aware that a very demanding challenge awaits us. The level of the opponents will be very high as usual, but at the same time we want to measure ourselves and to understand on a personal level where I am on my growth path. As always, I will be supported by my coach Pepe Oriola and the MM Motorsport team, with whom we have become a big family and we aim for great results together in the future.”

Team principal Emanuele Alborghetti welcomed Ghermandi’s return to TCR Europe, adding:

"We are truly happy to announce today that we will field a second car in TCR Europe for Giacomo. ‘Jack’ has grown a lot as a driver. He is an explosive mix of speed, creativity, and talent. His victory at the Red Bull Ring is the clearest proof of that. For his return to the championship, I'm sure he will be able to make his mark."
