Halder and Taylor reignite title hopes with two pole positions in Spain

Neil Hudson

Mike Halder and Nicolas Taylor have put themselves in strong positions to pick up valuable points at the final weekend of 2026. Halder took pole position for Race 1, while Taylor will have the chance to capitalise in the reversed-grid Race 2 after setting the tenth-fastest time.

Halder stormed to his first pole of the year and launched himself up to third in the standings with the ten points he collected as a result.

Taylor, meanwhile, drops to fourth in the standings, 19 points down on championship leader Butti. However, he has the chance to make up ground in Race 2, where Butti will start two positions behind him on the grid, but will be ahead of him in Race 1.

“I had to wait a long time this year for a pole position, but finally in the last event we got it,” said Halder, whose last pole was at the Norisring in 2022 with his own team. “I’m very proud of the whole team, they gave me a perfect car and I’m very happy, and now the focus is on the race.

“We’re here to fight for the championship, that’s the goal, now after qualifying we have the best chance to win the race.”

Taylor was happy after struggling in practice, remarking that the PMA Motorsport team had worked hard overnight to find more pace in the Audi RS 3 LMS. They found almost a second, which allowed him to break into Q2 and ultimately set the tenth-fastest time.

Taylor benefited from a fuel pump issue in the CUPRA of Viktor Andersson, which left the Swede stranded in 12th, and from a deleted lap for Alex Ley, which relegated him to 11th on the grid for this afternoon’s race.
