Hungaroring Race 2: Quotes from the TCR Europe podium

Kobe Pauwels (first in TCR Europe): “I had a good launch, then there was a Lynk & Co that stalled, and I was millimetre close to avoid it I think; I was really scared to damage the car and somehow we didn’t make contact, which was good. After the start I was just in position with the different cars, and I just always took the correct line to avoid the carnage and didn’t lose too much speed or positions. Then the Safety Car came out, my tyres were too cold so I was desperate not to make that mistake again, so much so that I perhaps warmed them up too much, all part of the learning curve. Later on, after the restart we were in no man’s land, saving the tyres, saving the brakes and getting ready to defend any issues. The second victory of the weekend, crazy to think from P14 and P4 in TCR Europe, a very cool weekend.”

Tom Coronel (second in TCR Europe): “The start wasn’t that great, two cars in front of me stalled and I had to slalom. I lost the momentum from that, and lost a couple of places, then in front of me was carnage – I had to go over the grass so the car was like a lawn mower, but I then thought I’m now P4 in Europe, I don’t want to be here, I want at least a podium. I had a good fight with Ceccon, eventually I overtook him cleanly with a dive to the inside, then I heard that Andersson had a five second penalty so I stayed behind him, and I was very happy with that result for the Championship.”

Kevin Ceccon (third in TCR Europe): “Honestly, what can I say? We had an amazing weekend for the team, a double podium in TCR Europe in what was only my first time in TCR Europe and double P3. I think it was good progress for Aggressive Team Italia, it was good for me and good for Hyundai. It was a great weekend but we need to improve a few things. We must work to maximise our potential and so we will keep on working. It was a great time and I really enjoyed the weekend, I have to say.”
