Ignacio Montenegro tops wet second practice at the Salzburgring

ALM Motorsport’s Ignacio Montenegro led the way in another wet practice session, with rain expected at the Salzburgring circuit through the rest of the day and through qualifying. The Argentinian driver finished ahead of his countryman Franco Girolami by just over three-tenths of a second.

Girolami threw down the first target, but Montenegro was able to go quicker after five minutes of the session were complete, and continued to improve his time throughout the session, ending up with a time of 1:33.235.

Felipe Fernández was set to take over at the top of the time sheets after setting the best first and

second sectors, but he then spun off at Turn 10 with 21 minutes to go, causing the session to be red-flagged.

Joint-championship leader Aurélien Comte finished the session in third place again, while GOAT Racing’s best placed driver was its newcomer Santiago Concepción, who finished the session fourth fastest, just ahead of Zolder Race 2 winner Levente Losonczy.

Fernández’s early time before the red flag was enough for him to still be classed as the best Diamond Trophy driver and in an overall sixth position, while Viktor Andersson was the just behind in seventh in his MA:GP Lynk & Co.

Nicola Baldan was the best-placed Audi, albeit in 11th overall, 1.6 seconds off the prace.

The qualifying session starts at 17:30 CEST.
