Having already announced that 20-year-old Jáchym Galáš will once again race for the Janík Motorsport team in TCR Europe this season, the team has now confirmed that Slovakia’s Mat’o Homola will once again be the Czech driver’s teammate. The pair will switch from the Hyundai i30 N cars with which they tackled the 2021 series to two Hyundai Elantra N cars. Another change sees the team racing under the new name of Hyundai/Janík Motorsport.
Homola finished 13th in last year’s TCR Europe standings after winning Race 2 at Monza and finishing second in Race 2 at Spa, while Galás was 17th overall and was runner-up in the Rookie class.
The team has entered four cars, including Homola and Galáš, for the opening round of the TCR Eastern Europe series at the Hungaroring over the weekend of April 9th/10th. The entries mean the two drivers will get a chance to try the Kumho tyres they’ll be using in TCR Europe in competition for the first time, as TCR Eastern Europe has also made the switch to the Korean tyre brand for this season.
In its press release announcing the line-up for 2022, the Hyundai/Janík Motorsport team confirmed that the Hungaroring event will be more about testing the two cars in race trim than scoring points in the series.
