Jenson Brickley has picked up a 10-second penalty for his part in the crash on the first lap of the race at the Red Bull Ring that caused a five-car pile-up at the exit of Turn 3, dropping him from fifth to 11th.
The Monlau Motorsport driver made contact with the Honda of Jacopo Cimenes on the way out of Turn 3, with the rival Honda of Santiago Concepción also coming down the left hand side of his CUPRA.
As Cimenes and Brickley collided, Cimenes then spun across the track and was collected by Junui Park's Hyundai and the PMA Audi of Sandro Pelatti, with the AIKOA Racing Audi of Filippo Barberi and the RC2 Racing Team Honda of Felipe Fernández also making contact in avoidance.
No driver sustained serious injuries in the accident, with just some bruises and scrapes, but the Honda of Cimenes and Park's Hyundai will take no further part this weekend due to extensive damage, while PMA Motorsport, AIKOA Racing and the RC2 Racing Team are working to repair their drivers cars for tomorrow's race.
While Brickley wasn't found wholly to blame for the incident, he has been punished in part with a ten-second penalty. The effect on the championship is that this now moves Jimmy Clairet up to joint-second, tied with his brother, 18 points behind new points leader Eric Gené, while Team Clairet Sport and Monlau Motorsport are now tied for the lead of the teams' championship.
