Championship leader Jimmy Clairet says Race 2 at the Hockenheimring was all about survival, which he just about managed after one point going off into the gravel as the rain came down hard with just over five minutes left of the race.
Clairet went off at Turn 6 just behind Ruben Volt, aquaplaning off the circuit in his Audi RS 3 LMS, but managed to rejoin, only losing track position to Max Hart’s Hyundai, and going on to finish third for the second time in two days, to take away a significant 44 points over the course of the weekend to extend his championship lead, now over team-mate Teddy Clairet, to 24 points.
“I’m happy with the result for sure, as this kind of race all you want to do is survive,” said Clairet. “I didn’t make a good tyre choice, as we were going for slicks with two new on the front, and two used on the rear, but we changed to wets at the last moment, but the new slicks on the front meant the grip was never there for the race. I don’t know how, but I survived to finish this race and I think I was really important to do a P3 today.
“When I went in the gravel, my heart stopped at this moment - but sometimes you neeed a bit of luck. I succeeded to get out of the gravel and lost one position to Max Hart. We need to keep focussed, to try and get the championship now.”
The Team Clairet Sport team also enjoys a 61-point lead in the teams’ title, heading into the second half of the 2025 season.
