Junesung Park was the fastest driver over the two first practice sessions at Spa-Francorchamps for the new TCR Europe Cup, after the rival Hyundai of Gabriele Covini set the pace in the first practice session.

Park’s best time of 2:27.155 was set in the second session just after midday, with the South Korean driver leading the rival Hyundai Elantra of Alex Ley by just under half a second.

Third quickest was Viktor Andersson, whose Monlau Motorsport-run CUPRA was just under a tenth behind Ley’s Hyundai, while TCR Europe champion Jenson Brickley was fourth fastest, just behind in his first outing in RC2 Racing Team’s Honda Civic Type R FL5 TCR.

In the first session, the times were even closer, with Covini leading the way while just a tenth of a second covered the top four, including Junui Park’s Hyundai, Nicolas Taylor’s Audi, and the CUPRA of Andersson.

The fastest of the RTI Trophy drivers in the first session was therefore Covini, while in the second session it was Giacomo Prandelli, who was seventh quickest overall in his AIKOA Racing Audi.

Qualifying 1 gets underway later today at 17:30 CEST, with the drivers set to take part in Race 1 tomorrow afternoon competing only.
