Levente Losonczy fought off 2022 champion Franco Girolami to score his and ALM Motorsport’s first victory of this season at Zolder, and has launched himself up to seventh in the championship.
The Hungarian racer and member of the JAS Motorsport Driver Development Programme had a slow start from pole position but was able to reclaim second place before the end of the first lap. He was then able to catch and pass early race leader Giovanni Scamardi’s CUPRA on lap seven, only losing the lead to Girolami for one corner at the restart on lap 13.
Losonczy went on to win the race ahead of team-mate Ruben Volt, who was able to take advantage when Losonczy made the move back for the lead at Turn 2 to lead the first 1-2 for the team in the series.
“We had quite decent pace in the dry on Saturday, so we knew we just needed to get in the positions,” said Losonczy. “We knew what the strategy was for today. I lost a position at the beginning, but I could fight my way back to the front.”
Reflecting on when he lost the lead to Girolami into Turn 1 running wide into the first corner, Losonczy mocked: “I did it on purpose, to make it more interesting.”
