Levente Losonczy took his second win of the season with a controlled drive from pole position at Brno, bouncing back from a difficult race on Saturday in which he finished in 14th in the 22 car field.
Losonczy managed to cover off the experienced TCR Eastern Europe champion Bartosz Groszek into the first corner, and helped his team-mate Ignacio Montenegro get up into second position before pulling away and taking the win, leading much of the race by nearly two seconds in his ALM Motorsport Honda Civic.
“My start was mega. I had some wheelspin, but I was on the better side, so I had the advantage on the Audi,” said Losonczy. “I covered him on the first half of the lap and so Nacho was then behind me. After the safety car restart I managed to pull a two second gap, and then I managed the tyres after that.”
In terms of battling with his team-mate, especially with Montenegro in the hunt for the overall drivers’ title, Losonczy explains it’s all open at the Estonian team for team-mates to battle.
“We’re all on equal terms. Everyone’s allowed to attack each other, obviously he has a chance for the championship, but whoever’s the fastest wins.
With 40 points added to his tally, the JAS Motorsport development driver jumped ahead of Ruben Volt and Nicola Baldan in the standings to fourth overall, which he hopes to be able to hold on to after the season finale later this month at Valencia.
“Ruben’s not here, so congratulations to him he did a mega race in TCR Italy yesterday winning the race and third today, for myself I would be satisfied with fourth, as the points gap is so big after my Vallelunga crash, so I’ll just try to make the most out of it.”
