Levente Lozonczy followed up on his first career victory two weeks ago at Zolder with a second place finish behind team-mate Ruben Volt, and with ALM Motorsport scoring another 1-2 finish and with both Volt and Ignacio Montenegro also on the podium in Race 1, the Estonian squad has now taken the lead of the teams’ championship.
Losonczy had a steady run to fifth place in Race 1, staying with the lead group in tricky conditions, while in Race 2 he was quickly making progress from fourth on the grid, passing the rival Honda of Rubén Fernández for third on the second lap, before getting ahead of Giovanni Scamardi’s CUPRA on lap six from which he caught up to team-mate Volt.
While he couldn’t find a way past Volt, he ended up working as his rear gunner to keep back the chasing group especially after the red flag, with Volt struggling with a car which had taken minor damage on the opening lap and also with the maximum weight penalty.
“It’s 1-2 again after Zolder, so it’s special and to have another 1-2 with Ruben it’s really good,” said Losonczy. “The whole team has done an amazing job. It’s been a difficult weekend for me since Friday. I did had a good qualifying result considering the conditions. My start was good, and I tried to avoid the conflicts into Turn 1, and managed by pace quite well and overtook the CUPRA and caught up with Ruben (Volt).
“I managed to pace to the end with Ruben, he was really quick, I was trying to catch up but he was a tough opponent today – I couldn’t beat him, but now we go to Spa with good momentum.”
