Marco Butti and Eric Gené are tied for the lead of the drivers’ standings after Eric Gené was given a ten-second penalty for contact with Jimmy Clairet at the final corner of the last lap in this afternoon’s race at the Red Bull Ring.
Gené was set to take a 17-point lead to his home event, but after the stewards decision dropped him from fourth to 13th, the Monlau Motorsport driver will be tied for points with Butti, who finished third and second in the two races at the Red Bull Ring, and is the joint-highest scorer of the weekend.
Teddy Clairet, who went in with a 14-point lead, is now third in the standings, seven points behind, with Jenson Brickley and Jimmy Clairet also in close contention, a further four and 14 points behind.
In the closest season of the series so far, mathematically, the top 12 drivers in the championship head to the season finale at Barcelona in the battle for the drivers’ title.
Monlau Motorsport have also taken the lead of the teams’ championship by 18 points over Team Clairet Sport, while Gené continues to lead the young drivers’ trophy, 23 points ahead of team-mate Jenson Brickley.
