Marco Butti goes to the Barcelona finale as the championship leader for the season year in a row, this time he’ll be racing on his team’s home circuit as he looks to secure his first TCR title.

The Italian picked up a podium in Race 1 at his home race and Monza, and with more points with fourth in Race 2 to move 11 points clear in the standings, now over BRC Racing Team’s Alex Ley.

Butti went into the season finale tied in the lead with Eric Gené, but had a disastrous final weekend with the MM Motorsport team, struggling with a technical issue in qualifying which left him near the back of the grid and effectively ended his title challenge.

The 20-year-old will be fighting eight other drivers for the title, and he also leads the Youth Best Trophy ahead of his team-mate Viktor Andersson by 18 points.

“I’m very happy after my home race weekend, the team did a good job,” said Butti. “I’ll be leading the championship again, but I’ll also be carrying 30kg, so there’s a lot of work to do the last round of the championship, my team is helping me a lot so we have to push for it.”
