Max Hart celebrates hard-fought podium at the Red Bull Ring

Max Hart celebrated his third podium of the year in a fierce second race at the Red Bull Ring, with the Irish driver keeping himself in outside contention for the drivers' championship heading to the season finale at the end of the month.

Starting from the outside of the front row for the second race, Hart took the battle to polesitter Jimmy Clairet at the first turn, but was soon passed by the CUPRA of Jenson Brickley and was left to try and fight for third.

Fading pace at the end of the race saw him lose two more positions, but following a last lap collision ahead of him, Hart was in the right place to snatch back the two positions lost and reclaim third position.

Hart heads to Barcelona sixth in the drivers' standings, 39 points off the lead with 70 still to fight for.

“I got a great start, but Jimmy covered off the inside very quickly," said Hart. "I thought about going around the outside but I got a snap of oversteer into Turn 1 and that was the end of my challenge on Jimmy. Jenson then got past me up the inside of Turn 3, I tried to stay with him but the Hyundai doesn’t have much pace at the moment unfortunately.

"I was really happy with how the race was going, we had a little bit of oversteer which resulted in a couple more positions lost, but then into the last corner the driver in front did a big divebomb and I was lucky enough to come out with two positions, which I was really grateful for."
