A front-runner in TCR Benelux for the last two seasons, Maxime Potty will switch to the TCR Europe Series in 2018. The 18-year old Belgian will drive a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR entered by Comtoyou Racing and supported by the Belgian VW Club.
Potty has already raced successfully the Golf TCR, finishing runner-up in the 2016 TCR Benelux Junior Trophy and third in the overall championship last year. He was also classified an impressive fourth in the 2017 TCR Europe Trophy at Adria.
“With the entire Comtoyou Racing team, led by Jean-Michel Baert and François Verbist, the support of the Belgian VW Club and Jean-François Hemroulle as my coach, I will be well looked after,” Potty said. “They have a lot of experience, which will be extremely valuable to me. In addition, I will have the benefit of a completely new Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, with its 2018 developments.”
Although he still has to learn all about the Hungaroring, Monza and Barcelona, Potty is not concealing his ambitions: “As I will have the opportunity to practice beforehand and everything will be done for me to fight for the title, that will be the aim. The challenge is tough, but I don’t want to play a supporting role. It is a major step in my career and I am ready and more motivated than ever.”
