Mike Halder topped the time sheets in the final practice session of the weekend at the Hungaroring, leading his ALM Motorsport team-mate Ruben Volt to a 1-2 finish for the Estonian squad, with Monlau Motorsport’s Adam Shepherd their closest rival.
Halder had led most of the session with a banker lap, but only in the last ten minutes did the more competitive times emerge. Volt had assumed the lead of the session, before Halder took it back with a time of 1:51.800, just under three-tenths away from the qualifying record.
Volt’s time was half a second off of Halder’s time, but was good enough to keep him in second position. A number of improvements came in the final moments as everyone went out on the fresh tyre runs. Adam Shepherd jumped up to third, just ahead of the best of the Hyundais, that of Solite Indigo Racing’s Junui Park.
Alex Ley was fifth fastest in his BRC Racing Team Hyundai, the last driver within a second of Halder’s time, just ahead of his team-mate Gabriele Covini, with Marco Butti seventh in his CUPRA.
The two PMA Motorsport Audis of Nicolas Taylor and Nicola Baldan were next, with Argentina’s Tiago Pernía rounding out the top ten.
The next session is qualifying, which takes place at 10:50 CEEST tomorrow morning.
