Franco Girolami (fastest): “I want to thank and congratulate the entire PSS Racing team. They did an amazing job, the car was amazing and to score the ten points with sixty kilos of ballast is very good. Qualifying is very important but I did a long run in both FP1 and FP2 yesterday and practiced the long run ready for the race. The weather is supposed to be heavy rain tomorrow, so we will see what happens, but even though I don’t have much experience in TCR I have a lot of experience racing in the rain in Argentina and so maybe it will be good for me.”
Jack Young (2nd): “It feels so good to get the weight out of the car after two gruesome rounds, but we qualified P10 last time and with the weight out of the car we were able to show our full potential. We were fighting for P1 but I think Franco pipped me on the line and I made a small mistake in the last corner as well so it was fair enough to him but we’ll see in the race. I think a lot of people were slipstreaming, but I was just trying to help out my teammates at the same time, so I wasn’t able to get the slipstream. We definitely had the pace to take pole position today, but Qualifying is one thing and the race is another.”
Felice Jelmini (3rd): “Maybe I know this track better than my teammates, as I only live about 20kms away and so I spent a lot of my childhood here. I’m not completely happy with my performance because I lost a couple of tenths on my fastest lap and I’m totally disappointed for the team because while we clearly have the performance, the other guys had some problems. I tried to help my teammates in Q1, especially Sami, but we had some problems with the slipstream in the first run because my tyres weren’t ready. On the second run, we improved a lot but there was a red flag. In Q2 I searched for a slipstream and I was behind Girolami because I knew he was fast. In Monza, you have to be clever every time. Without slipstream, without a tow, you can’t do anything. I will do everything I can in the races, we know we have the pace so we will see what happens.”
