Monza Race 1: Quotes from the podium

John Filippi (1st): “That was fantastic! Yesterday I didn’t expect that, especially after the Nürburgring race where it was very, very difficult for us. This morning, I found the car super good, as I said before, and so it was a very interesting race, fighting with Nicola in all the first part before the Safety Car. At the restart after the Safety Car I only had one chance to overtake him, if not we would be fighting too much with the cars behind as they were coming very fast, I saw that in my mirrors. I knew I only had one chance to take this win, and in motor racing it is not always like this, you never know when you will go back on the podium and when you will win another race, so I will just sit back and enjoy this.”

Jáchym Galáš (2nd): “It feels great, if I were to describe the whole race, or if I were to describe the start it was more or less guesswork as I’ve never raced these cars on a wet track. I lost a position to Butti but I managed to get him back a few laps later. Then there was the restart and suddenly Files was behind me, and I’m thinking where did he come from, but we managed to get a really good restart and pull away at the restart. The last laps were to me the most difficult ones because I managed to get Baldan and I thought I was ok and likely to have a comfortable podium, but then I see one of the Halder cars coming and I’m like, how did he get here from P14? I was defending from where I knew he was faster than me, then I tried to make as much of a gap as I could in places I knew I was faster. I was pretty relieved when the race ended, because I knew with Mike Halder behind me I was far from safe.”

Mike Halder (3rd): “What a race! I’m so happy to finish in P3 after a bad Qualifying with the red flag, so I couldn’t do anything with the Qualifying even though we know we have a good balance in the car, and now we swapped the setup to the rain and pretty much from P14 to the podium so I feel like the luckiest guy in the paddock! After the Safety Car I saw I was in P6 and thought I’d had a great race, then we pushed on to P3 and that’s so perfect, very nice. I don’t know about tomorrow, we have a reverse grid so all the special conditions, but tonight we do a little bit more on the setup. I hope for me it is wet, as starting from P14 it will be much better for me and my chances to make up places again.”
