Monza Race 2: Quotes from the podium

Franco Girolami (1st):“Still no championship, but this is motorsport, this is racing. It was enough today for the show and to put on a good race, but in the end yesterday we were struggling in the race, so everybody at Comtoyou Racing worked so, so hard to give me this beautiful car for today for the conditions, so my massive thanks to Comtoyou for the work, to Viktor Davidovski for trusting me and now we put the focus on Barcelona, where we have to continue working in the same way. I am so, so happy. I knew that the key was in the start, so I prepared the tyres well to have a strong start. I took a little risk, so I went outside another car. I spotted a little mistake from Klim, he lost the car in the last corner so I took the opportunity to overtake, and secure the win.”

Klim Gavrilov (2nd):“It was probably the best I could do, because it’s a proper track for the Audi. The CUPRA is fast, but we are just not that fast. I did everything I could, the setup was pretty good I think, I would say I was happy with that. In some corners it wasn’t ideal, but in most of the corners it was perfect. At the beginning, I would say I did a decent start, maybe I could have done better but we are learning still, and I’m pretty happy – I think I did what I could. Being on the podium with the CUPRA is always a celebration, and showing what we can do and what this CUPRA is really capable of. In Barcelona, I’ll see what weight I have and I’ll do my best and try to battle to improve in the championship.”

Sergio López (3rd):“Wow, that was amazing! It was amazing to get a podium here, starting second. I knew the guys behind me were faster, but I was sure I could keep up with the pace. I knew Baldan had a penalty, so my only real goal was to keep within that five seconds and benefit from the penalty, and somehow I don’t know how I managed to stay in and it was amazing – I hope this is the first podium of many here in TCR Europe. For the start, my only preparation was focussing on the lights, and as soon as they all went out just do whatever I can. I tried to go on the inside of Klim but he closed the door pretty well, then I think Baldan and a bunch of other guys went on the outside which complicated things a bit for me, but I just concentrated on keeping the pace.”
