Néstor Girolami sets the pace in second practice

The second Practice at Le Castellet saw Néstor Girolami posting the fastest lap in the PSS Racing’s Honda Civic. The Argentine clocked a lap of 2:13.332 as the session was about to expire, and so demoted Teddy Clairet to second.
The Frenchman had posted a provisional fastest time of 2:13.721 halfway through the 30-minute Practice and topped the timesheet until Girolami’s last effort. Teddy retained the second place in the final results by a mere six thousandths, as Mike Halder moved into third with a lap of 2:13.727, also on his last lap. Jimmy Clairet ranked fourth (2:13.837) ahead of Sami Taoufik (2:14.015).
Pepe Oriola, Dániel Nagy, Michelle Halder, John Filippi and Julien Briché filled the positions between sixth and tenth.
A few minutes before the end, Jessica Bäckman’s Hyundai stopped on the track with a technical issue, prompting the double yellow flag.

Girolami declared: “The team have done an excellent job. Everything was really well prepared despite the short notice; during FP1 I was trying to get used to the car as it’s brand new and in TCR Europe there are some differences to my usual car so I had to try and understand quickly what was needed and then we made some changes for FP2 that paid off and we used a new set of tyres at the very end. I think we are in a very strong position but tomorrow is another story. It’s currently over forty degrees on track and tomorrow will be about the same. We are not the fastest on the straight, so that will be challenging for both races. Our top speed is not the best, but we have a very good compromise between Sector 1 and Sector 3 and so we will see. Qualifying will be important, but so will be understanding the tyre degradation. The race will be really hot and so the car that survives with the better tyres until the second half of the race will have a very big difference. We need to be in the right window to finish the race in the best way possible.”

Action will resume tomorrow with the Qualifying session at 9:00.
