Nicola Baldan has said he’s delighted after finishing at the top of the podium in today’s race at Circuit Zolder in Belgium, securing his first race win since May 2018, where he took his last win in the TCR Italy championship at Paul Ricard.
Baldan dominated qualifying with a time nearly half a second clear of Aurélien Comte, while in the race he was able to manage the gap to finish ahead of the French driver and secure a long overdue win.
“Finally we did it!” said Baldan. “We were hoping for this today as it’s been a long time waiting for this victory, my last one was in 2018, and we’ve had a lot of bad luck since. Thanks to the team, and all my fans at home, and I’m hoping this is the start of a new chapter.
With the reversed grid, Baldan will have a challenge ahead of him to try and encore tomorrow, starting from tenth on the grid in his Baldan Group by Comtoyou Audi RS 3 LMS.
“Tomorrow, it’ll be difficult, as the track is tight and it’s tough to pass, but we’ll try to do our best.”
