Nicola Baldan has taken over the lead of the Diamond Trophy after a pair of class victories at Spa-Francorchamps. The AIKOA Racing Audi driver snatched victory from Felipe Fernández on the final lap of Race 1, while he was even more in control in the second race as his rivals hit difficulty.
The pair of class wins has given the Italian a 12-point lead in the 40-and-over class heading to the next round of the championship at Hockenheim.
“These were two very competitive races, but these are not yet the results I expect to achieve,” said Baldan. “The positive aspect is that we are strong and consistent in the race. We have margin to improve. Our problem is qualifying, when we are not able to be fast enough. We will be working on it with the goal to be ready for Hockenheim.”
