Nicolas Taylor took his first victory in TCR Europe on his 16th race start with PMA Motorsport at Mugello. It was only the two-time Italian series champion’s second podium since joining the series at the end of 2024.
The win follows a learning season alongside his TCR Italy campaign last year, in which he successfully defended his championship title.
Now, six months after winning in TCR Italy at Mugello last September, Taylor led the way from start to finish in his PMA Motorsport-run Audi RS 3 LMS. He maintained his lead despite pressure from behind and a fear that the Audi had taken the most out of its Kumho tyres, especially with yesterday’s race winner, Alex Ley, bearing down on him with a brand-new set.
“The first few laps were relatively easy; the car was driving really well, but then halfway through the race I noticed the drop in the tyres,” said Taylor. “I had about a one-to-two-second gap to the guys behind me, but then I noticed they started to close, so I had to adjust my driving style because the tyres were falling off and I needed to maintain the gap.
“I think I got a little bit lucky with the safety car, as that bunched up the pack and there was only a little bit of time left. I was a bit worried at the first restart because we had about five minutes left, but then we got a second safety car, which allowed me to do one more push lap.
“I’m super-happy to be here and winning for my first time in TCR Europe. Having my mum and my girlfriend here is pretty cool—to have them witness that—and then, of course, all of my family back in Canada and Malta watching the race on TV. It’s a really tough championship this year and I know the championship is long, so we’ll just go race-by-race. I have great confidence going into Spa for the next round.”
