Portimão - the final pieces of the jigsaw

Ahead of this afternoon’s test session at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, the final few entries for the opening round of the 2022 TCR Europe have been confirmed. In total, twenty-one cars are entered for the two Portuguese races this weekend.

The biggest announcement of the morning was the return to TCR Europe of John Filippi, who will drive for last year’s Teams’ champions, Sébastien Loeb Racing, although the team has switched from the Hyundai Elantra N to the CUPRA Leon Competición (pictured). Filippi last drove in the TCR Europe series in 2020, when he ended the season as runner-up to Mehdi Bennani in the Drivers’ championship. He then drove a Hyundai Veloster in last year’s Pure ETCR series, in which he finished tenth.

There are also entries for a number of young Portuguese drivers, with Volcano Motorsport already having confirmed a fourth CUPRA for Gustavo Moura Jr. Joining him will be Luís Cidade in an Audi RS 3 LMS II car, run by Élite Motorsport with Comtoyou Racing, with the team also planning to run a second Audi in a full-season entry for the Swiss driver Miklas Born, who won the TCR class in the 2020 24H series.
