Luca Filippi (pole positions): “I have to say I’m delighted. It’s not been easy so far, but I think we understand that this championship is so different to what I’m used to, so we had to wait until now to put everything together. This was the first circuit where I had a test with this car and I think that was a huge help for me. To go to a circuit that you know very well and you drove there dozens of times with different cars, sometimes you get confused because you say ‘I used to do this all the time, so why doesn’t it work this time?’ and it’s not so easy. Having a test and refreshing a little, you come back and suddenly you know how to drive again and it’s a good feeling.”
Josh Files (2nd): “I’m not happy with P2 because I wanted pole! Being serious, I’m pretty happy with that, as I’d have been on pole if I put all my best sectors together. On my second flying lap I took it a bit too easy at Turn 1 and I lost all the time in the first sector. In the last sector, I gave it everything and I missed out by something like five hundredths. It’s not the end of the world and I’m happy enough. We had some teething problems yesterday with a brand new car as we expected, but the team did a fantastic job to put out a new car in such a short space of time, so they deserve the credit.”
Nelson Panciatici (3rd): “I’m really very happy, because the last two Qualifying sessions were very difficult for us, so it’s good to be back on the top. Now we will see what will happen in the race, which should be good. If I’m honest, I’m a little surprised that the top three are all Hyundai cars, because yesterday the other cars were quicker than us. It’s good for Hyundai that we are at the front and I think it will be a nice race because we are in the same car. I think we will have to be aggressive but clever at the start to avoid crashing at Turn 1, but we will see.”
